TOGAF stands for The Open Group Architecture Framework. TOGAF was adopted by the Federal IT Council (FITC) in October 2006 as the standard framework and toolset at federal level.

The Open Group is an international industry-neutral and technology-neutral consortium of firms, universities and government agencies. With their vision of a "boundaryless information flow", The Open Group has developed certification programmes, test procedures and standards for company-wide information architectures.

The Federal Administration has been a member of The Open Group since the middle of 2006 and is currently working on a Swiss adaptation and introduction of TOGAF as an enterprise architecture framework and toolset.

TOGAF will henceforth increasingly also be used in the development of the eGovernment Architecture.
