Security fundamentals

The four pillars of IT security are :
  • the availability,
  • the confidentiality,
  • the integrity, and
  • the traceability of information and data.

These four pillars constitute the foundations for the security requirements in the Federal Administration, together with

  • the Federal ICT Strategy
  • the misson statement of ICT security
  • the Federal IT Ordinance (BinfV)
  • the Federal Act on Data Protection
  • and the Information Protection Ordinance (ISchV).

The most important requirements are set out in the Directive of the Federal Council on ICT Security in the Federal Administration (WisB).
